SOFO Online Talks – The Great War Salonika Campaign

The Great War Salonika Campaign

Online Talk and Live Q&A with Alan Wakefield

Available Now (First shown live &pm BST 27/10/2022)

Between 1915 and 1918 a strong British force fought alongside our French allies in an often forgotten campaign in the Balkans, this was in the Macedonian region in Northern Greece. The Bulgarian enemy proved determined and resourceful and was difficult to dislodge from its strong positions inflicting severe casualties on the Allied units pitted against them. Alan Wakefield’s story will tell of two battalions of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry which were engaged in these operations and gained for the Regiment the battle honours Doiran 1917-18 and Macedonia 1915-18.
