Agincourt

Online Talk and Live Q&A with Lt. Col. Robin Phayre

Live from 7pm, Tuesday 24th October 2023

AGINCOURT with Robin Phayre – Available Now

Lt Col Robin Phayre discusses the Battle of Agincourt (or Azincourt), 1415, and asks the question, 'was it the English who won, or was it the French that lost the Battle?'

The talk will cover the principal participants, King Henry V and Charles VI of France, and with reference to some participants from Oxfordshire, including the Earl of Oxford, as well as Thomas Chaucer, the son of Geoffrey Chaucer. Explore the landing at Harfleur and the march north towards the small villages of Azincourt, Tramecourt and Maisoncelles, and of course the mud, weapons, and armour of the battle itself.

With their ability to move and deploy swiftly, to think for themselves or quickly react to orders, could the archers of Agincourt be likened to light infantry?

Robin's talk will be illustrated throughout with aerial photos of the battlefield that he took via drone in 2015, just before the 600 th anniversary of the battle.
