German ‘Pickelhaube’ Spiked Helmet – ‘Pickelhaube’ translates roughly to ‘point’ or ‘pickaxe’ (Pickel) and ‘bonnet’ (Haube). It was also used by fire-fighters and police in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
