Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry

The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry was part of Sir John Moore's Light Division, delivered the final blow to Napoleon's Guards at Waterloo. It helped found the Metropolitan Police, and in the ensuing decades battalions served in most parts of the Empire, throughout World War One, at Dunkirk and as glider-borne troops in World War Two, subsequently in Palestine, Malaya and Cyprus.

German ‘Pickelhaube’ Spiked Helmet – ‘Pickelhaube’ translates roughly to ‘point’ or ‘pickaxe’ (Pickel) and ‘bonnet’ (Haube). It was also used by fire-fighters and police in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Begbie Oil Signal Lamp – The Begbie Signal Lamp came into use in the 1880’s. It has a powerful lens to focus the beam and a shutter operated by a knob on top of the lamp. The operator pointed the lamp towards the next signal station and flashed his message in the Morse code by working the shutter.

Horsa Airspeed Glider drawing – The Horsa Glider was designed by Airspeed and to carry a load of about three tons such as a jeep and a light artillery piece or trailer, or a platoon of twenty-eight infantrymen. The Horsa was towed by a heavy bomber or a Dakota transport plane.

‘Pte Henry Fisher’ World War 1 Dog Tag which had an eight-sided green tag and the second was a round red tag. In the event of death the red tag was cut off, leaving the green tag on the body. Others finding a body with only the green tag would know that the death was already being reported.
