The Oxford Kid and Family

This book describes events in the lives of the Godfrey family. In 1887 the author’s grandfather, the ‘Oxford Kid’, brought fame to the Oxfordshire Light Infantry.

Diary extracts from the author’s father and uncles describe events and Ypres, the Somme and other World War I battle-fields, and the experiences of one when a prisoner of war.

After the First World War, the author’s aunt worked for the Oxford Electric Tramway Company. Ephemera from this period is shown.

The author then recounts personal experiences from his childhood in the ‘Robin Hood’ area of East Oxford in the 1930’s and from his work with the Emergency Public Health Laboratory Service from 1943.
