Description

A True Soldier Gentleman: The Memoirs of Lt. John Cooke 1791-1813

Each regiment has its own character; Lt John Cooke described his fellow officers in the 43rd Light Infantry as “a gay set, the dandies of the army, and great encouragers of dramatic performances, dinner parties and balls.”

They were also amongst the most courageous men in Wellington’s Army. This is the first of three volumes of military memoirs charting this officer’s life and times. It gives a good insight into the army of the time.
