IWAW Online Exhibition – supported by SEMD
SOFO & IWAW
Since 2020, SOFO Museum has been working with Iraqi Women Art and War (IWAW) and in 2021 received a Creative Collections Grant from South East Museum Development to further our exciting partnership.
The aim of the project was to welcome a new community into the museum through a series of workshops culminating in a co-curated trail of original (handmade) objects created in response to some of stories and objects held in the museums’ permeant galleries.
Over the course of several months, three workshops were held at the museum and facilitated by IWAW founder and Director Rana Ibrahim and the Museum Director, Ursula Corcoran. All of the art work produced during the workshops was exhibited at the museum and reflected the impact of conflict in recent years.
The resulting art work also included a trail of clay objects created by the refugee women who took part in the project. These are currently on display in the museum with English and Arabic labels.
