Current Exhibitions

The Oxfordshire Museum (TOM) at Woodstock has kindly lent SOFO two galleries and a separate case for exhibitions:

1. Winston Churchill, Oxfordshire Hussar, 1901-1965

This exhibition illustrates how Churchill was an enthusiastic and effective TA soldier, and how soldiering was part of his blood.

This aspect of his life rarely figures in biographies. Some of the photographs and items on display have never been seen in public.

The exhibition was opened in 2009 by Baroness Soames LG DBE.

You can also view the online Churchill exhibition.

2.  Children and War

Funded by the HLF and Curated by Julie Summers, this exhibition is at The Oxfordshire Museum and opened in October 2011. It covers themes from boy soldiers, war-time toys and games, to evacuees and refugees, and to children helping with the war effort, all seen through the lens of Oxfordshire.

The exhibition was launched by one of SOFO's Academic Advisers, Professor Cecile Fabre. Here is her opening speech.

You can also view the online Children and War exhibition.

3. Object of the Month

And, of course, there is also the small "Object of the Month" display.
