Legacies

The Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust is very fortunate that many of its supporters choose to sustain the Museum by remembering us in their Wills.

By leaving a legacy to the Museum you will be helping to safeguard our collection for future generations. It can serve as a unique memorial to a personal involvement in the Museum, the local regiments or the heritage that the Museum promotes.

Legacies can be unrestricted, enabling the trust to target the areas most in need of support, or given to specific areas of the Museum's work such as conservation of the collection or education programmes.
 
Legacies can be given as cash, shares or property donations. Legacies left to the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust are not liable for inheritance tax as the Museum is a registered charity.

How to Leave a Legacy
If you do not have a Will, you should consult a solicitor. If you have previously made a Will, you may ask your solicitor to add a Codicil to include a legacy. Your Will or Codicil should contain the following or very similar wording:

"I give to the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust of The Old Tannery, Hensington Road, Woodstock OX20 1JL (Registered Charity No. 1083387) the sum of £__.__ for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer of the time being of the Museum shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors."

If you would like to use the gift for a particular purpose, then you could add:

"And I express the wish (but without imposing any trust to this effect) that the aforesaid gift shall if possible be used for the purposes of ...."

We know that your decision to include such a legacy is a very private one, but if you would like to discuss your intentions and wishes with us, we should be delighted to do so.  Any information you provide is not legally binding and will be kept in our strictest confidence.
