Ink Pot

SOFO Volunteer Tom Shannon found a link to his past: this beautiful ink pot was found in the ruins of the Kashmir Gate, Delhi, 1857, after a battle at which his Great Great Great Uncle, John Lawrence, commanded British troops.

Gas Warning Bell

During May and June 2011, a bell used by German soldiers to warn of gas attacks which was captured in 1917 is on display in The Oxfordshire Museum, Woodstock. Here are the images of that display. Exhibition created by SOFO Volunteer Tom Shannon, with help from Steve Berridge who did the research.

'Revealed - The Underwear Revolution' was an exhibition on underwear and changing materials at The Oxfordshire Museum from April to June 2011, in which SOFO participated.
The exhibition contains the items in the SOFO contribution, which reveals some war-time underwear as well as taking a broader look at changing materials in times of conflict.
