Fees
Fees for research are levied on a not-for-profit basis and are used to fund the conservation and maintenance of the museum and its archives. The charge for an initial enquiry is £25.00, payable in advance. This is based on one hour of research for relevant information and the preparation of a helpful and if possible informative response. If there is more information potentially available and therefore more time is needed, you will be told in advance. This may result in a quotation for additional work.
Our reply to you is likely to be by email unless you request it by letter.
Making an Enquiry
As with all archives, our records are incomplete and we have both strengths and weaknesses.
Personal memoirs, diaries and letters exist from most periods, and we are strong on Regimental history and uniform information.
We can therefore often help in genealogical research, but there are sometimes limitations especially further back in time with commoner names (we have over 1500 “Smith” records). If after a search of our archives, we find that we cannot help an inquirer, we will offer advice on the most fruitful alternative approaches available, if any.
Please add as much information as possible to the data entry panel below and try to be precise about regimental and battalion titles and numbers, the full names of people and places, and dates.
